Our lectures, workshops, and outreach programs inspire and educate both members and the general public. Our workshop provides members with both the space for large projects and the tools to complete them. We are a non-profit educational organization supported by member dues and staffed by volunteers.
Going from Schematics to Breadboards
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesIn this class Ray will lead you step by step through reading a schematic and translating it into a prototype on a solderless breadboard. Each attendee will build a circuit using an integrated circuit, resistors, capacitors and diodes to take home and show off to friends!

DEFCON 27: OpSec
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesDEFCON Groups (DCGs) are locally run branches of the annual event known as DEFCON. Each year, thousands of hackers descend upon Las Vegas (over 22,000 in 2016). This annual migration of the worlds top digital talent brings more with it than just the scent of unwashed pits. If you plan on attending this year's DEFCON, or would just like to learn how to protect your data from prying eyes, join us on July 17th where we will be learning from DC865 organizer Zach Nelson.
Laser Cutter 101
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesThis is an introduction class to our laser cutter, Goldfinger. Jondale will lead attendees of this class as they learn the basics of laser cutting, make a simple design, and then engrave and cut out the desing using the laser cutter in our space. This class is intended for members who have not yet been authorized to use Goldfinger or need/want a review of its operation.
Build a 21st Century Phenakistiscope
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesJoin Joe Pardue in building an Arduino controlled motorized phenakiscope.
This project was specially designed to briefly introduce novices to some of a makerspace’s tools: lasercutters, 3D printers, microcontrollers, motors, LEDs, soldering and basic electronics. All the components needed to build a phenakistiscope will be provided. This workshop will be very informal. We will begin by building the phenakistiscope and then have discussions of technical aspects of the project based on the student’s interests.

DC865: Top 10 Web Vulnerabilities
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesAt this month's meeting, we have Jeremy Kelso walking us through the OWASP Top 10. The OWASP Top 10 is a list of the most critical web application security risks in use today. Kelso will be using the Juice Shop project to demonstrate these vulnerabilities and discuss ways to mitigate their use.
If you would like to take notes or follow along, a laptop may be handy.
Embroidery Machine Workshop
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesThis is an overview authorization class and hands on workshop with our Singer XL400 Futura CNC Embroidery Machine. Attendees will learn the basics of how to turn text and images into fabric art. This class is intended for members who have not yet been authorized to use the embroidery machine.
There is a maximum of 3 participants. There is a 3 participant minimum. If the minimum amount of participants is not reached within 48 hours the class will be cancelled and charges refunded.
Hemming Workshop

This class will take you through step by step both the basic top stitch and blind hem techniques followed by some hands-on practice. In the time remaining, you can hem your own project. Yes, feel free to bring an item that needs hemming with you to class.
Sewing machines, tools and an assortment of thread are available for use. However, if you want that perfect match, please bring your own thread.
Intro to Knitting

Intro to Cameo Silhouette

You will learn the difference in blades and tools available and how they work for different materials.. Learn The different materials that can be used in the machine. Learn how to set up the machine for your project and how to make adjustments if needed. Also included tips and tricks learned over the past few years on personal use on the machine. Everything is provided for this class.
Wood Joinery

Woodshop 104: Making a Bandsaw Box

Woodworking 101: Intro to the Woodshop

At the completion of this course, you will be authorized to use the all equipment (except for the grizzly lathe) without supervision.
