New Member Onboarding
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesKnox Makers will host a member onboarding session for new members. This night will start with a brief overview of the resources, rules, and goals of Knox Makers. Afterwards, members should feel welcome to stay and socialize. The focus of this evening will be on members who are new to Knox Makers, but older members are encouraged to come help and meet newer members. Snacks will be provided, so please RSVP so that we can make sure we provide an appropriate amount.
Woodshop 104: Making a Bandsaw Box
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesFred will teach you how to make a "Bandsaw Box" except using the sawstop instead. You will make and take home a 3x5 inch box (time permitting) or at least the pieces to assemble one yourself.
This class is for current paying Knox Makers members and has a fee of $9.96. There will be a maximum of 20 spots for this class, and a minimum of 5 tickets must be sold. If the class minimum is not met 48 hours prior to class start time, the class we be canceled and all tickets will be refunded.

Metal Turning 101 – Grizzly Lathe Tool Authorization
Knox Makers - Machining 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesIn this class you will receive basic hands on experience in operating a Grizzly G0602 10" x 22" Lathe. During this 3 to 4 hour class, Billy will go over the basics which include work holding, facing, center drilling, drilling, profile turning, grooving and parting operations. You will also learn the basics of using a dial indicator for more accurate parts, power feed, and basic care of the lathe. This is a tool authorization class and once completed you will be authorized to use the lathe and Knox Maker members will receive a key need to operate the lathe. Intro to Machining is a prerequisite class.

Intro to Sewing – Pillows or Cushions
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesIf you're tired of looking at those old throw pillows and want to get a fresh look, you can simply recover them. Join us for this intro to sewing class. We have several fabrics to choose from or you can bring your own. See the materials needed section for yardage requirements for the fabric store. Or you can repurpose something from second hand stores. Don't just look in the home section, look in apparel sections as well.
Skill Needed: None. Just bring your enthusiasm.
Materials needed: Existing pillow, pillow form, existing cushion or foam pad. The fabric needs depend on you. We have several fabrics to choose from or bring your own. If you bring your own, here's a very simple yardage guide to use at the fabric store. Find the longest measurement; width, or length. Multiply by 2 and add 8”. Most Home Décor fabrics come in 60” widths so as long as your calculated measurement is less, you will only need to buy the length of your shorter measurement plus 1”. If your calculated measurement is more than the fabric width, you’ll need twice the shorter measurement plus 2”.

Reversible Japanese Knot Bag
Knox Makers - Fiber Arts 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesThis class is perfect for the beginner sewer. You will learn how to pin, mark and cut out your pattern. You will be doing straight stitching, making darts and sewing along curves. We'll provide the pattern with specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a super cute and useful bag.
Choose the size you want and then see the material list for what you will need to bring.
The small bag is sized for phone, keys and small wristlet. Perfect for a quick run to the store. The medium bag is sized for bigger wristlets, a to-go craft bag or transporting those gyms clothes. The large bag is big enough to hang from the shoulder and is sized to be used for a shopping bag or maybe all the things you need to take to the pool or park. The uses are endless.
Materials needed: Small - Two fabric pieces 1/4 yard for each (1 inside / 1 outside) or two fat quarters. Medium - Two fabric pieces 5/8 yard for each (1 inside / 1 outside). Large - Two fabric pieces 7/8 yard for each (1 inside / 1 outside). Suitable fabrics are quilting cotton, broadcloth or similar weight. Matching sewing thread. Picture shows repurposed stained blouse for medium and a tablecloth for the large size.
We encourage you to bring your own sewing machine, bobbin, matching sewing thread. Machines are available but thread colors are limited.
Milling 101 – Bridgeport Mill Tool Authorization
Knox Makers - Machining 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United States** Intro to Machining is a prerequisite class. You have to complete the Intro to Machining class before you can take the Milling 101 Class. *****
In this class you will receive basic hands on experience in operating a Bridgeport Series I J-Head milling machine. During this 3 to 4 hour class, Billy will go over the basics of tramming the head of the mill, tramming the vise, edge finding, work holding and setup, drilling , side milling, and top/end milling operations. You will also learn the basics of the DRO (digital read out), the table power feed, and basic care of the mill. This is a tool authorization class and once completed you will be authorized to use the milling machine and Knox Maker members will receive a key need to operate the mill. Intro to Machining is a prerequisite class.
There will be a fee of $24.96 for members.. There will be a maximum of 4 spots of this class, and a minimum of 2 tickets must be sold. If the class minimum is not met 48 hours prior to class start time, the class we be canceled and all tickets will be refunded.
