Jay will give you a hands on introduction to leather. This class will begin with a tour of the Knox Makers space, and then move into the “Leather City" where we will have a general overview of the tools provided by Makers, what you want in your leather toolbox, the different kinds of leather, particular uses, proper procedures, and safety. At the end of this class, all participates will have worked with leather and made something to take home. Although not a prerequisite for future leather classes it is highly advised to take this class to find out which avenue in the vast township of “Leather City” you may find intriguing.
In this class you will receive basic hands on experience in operating a Bridgeport Series I J-Head milling machine. During this 3 hour class, Billy will go over the basics of tramming the head of the mill, tramming the vise, edge finding, work holding and setup, drilling, side milling, and top/end milling operations. You will also learn the basics of the DRO (digital read out), the table power feed, and basic care of the mill. This is a tool authorization class and once completed you will be authorized to use the milling machine and Knox Maker members will receive a key need to operate the mill. Greg will outline techniques for welding in the metal shop. This class will begin with welding instruction followed by a hands-on shop class in which students will learn the effects of heat, ideal travel speed, welding position, and more. Those interested in participating and making some sparks after the class is over are welcome to stay and put their new knowledge to the test. There is some loaner equipment, but if you have your own welding gear, you are encouraged to bring it to this workshop.
This month’s meeting for the Knox Area Robotics Club will be a talk and tinker session. Members are encouraged to bring in robotics projects to work on and tinker with to collaborate and learn from each other. Show and Share will begin prompty at 6:30PM, and the tinkering will start around 7:00PM.
