Embroidery Machine Workshop
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesThis is an overview authorization class and hands on workshop with our Singer XL400 Futura CNC Embroidery Machine. Attendees will learn the basics of how to turn text and images into fabric art. This class is intended for members who have not yet been authorized to use the embroidery machine.
There is a maximum of 3 participants. There is a 3 participant minimum. If the minimum amount of participants is not reached within 48 hours the class will be cancelled and charges refunded.
DC865: Top 10 Web Vulnerabilities
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesAt this month's meeting, we have Jeremy Kelso walking us through the OWASP Top 10. The OWASP Top 10 is a list of the most critical web application security risks in use today. Kelso will be using the Juice Shop project to demonstrate these vulnerabilities and discuss ways to mitigate their use.
If you would like to take notes or follow along, a laptop may be handy.

Build a 21st Century Phenakistiscope
Knox Makers 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United StatesJoin Joe Pardue in building an Arduino controlled motorized phenakiscope.
This project was specially designed to briefly introduce novices to some of a makerspace’s tools: lasercutters, 3D printers, microcontrollers, motors, LEDs, soldering and basic electronics. All the components needed to build a phenakistiscope will be provided. This workshop will be very informal. We will begin by building the phenakistiscope and then have discussions of technical aspects of the project based on the student’s interests.

DEFCON 27: OpSec

Each year, thousands of hackers descend upon Las Vegas (over 22,000 in 2016). This annual migration of the worlds top digital talent brings more with it than just the scent of unwashed pits. Welding 101

This is the Basic startup class for using the Mig Welding in the Metal Area.
We will spend 30 minutes on basic safety and area requirements.
Then expect an hour of hands on setup and shared MIG welding time
I’m going to limit the number of students to 5 , so each person get enough hands on time to be able to feel comfortable using the MIG welder
Students should bring their own shield and gloves, if they have them. But they are not required, as we have setups available to use.
Please do NOT bring your own welding equipment to use, the setup and testing time could impact other students.
Machining 100 – Intro To Machining

This class will begin with a tour of the machining area with a, in-depth discussion of each tool, it’s uses, proper procedures, and safety. At the end of this class, all participating members will be authorized to use the drill press, box pan brake, handtools, and the horizontal bandsaw. **This is a prerequisite for the Bridgeport Mill and Lathe tool authorization classes**
There will be a fee for this class of $9.96 for current Knox Makers members. There will be a maximum of 8 spots for this class, and a minimum of 3 tickets must be sold. If the class minimum is not met 48 hours prior to class start time, the class will be canceled and all tickets will be refunded.
Project Lathe: Workday

We purchased a new to us lathe which requires a little maintenance before it's ready to use. This is a good opportunity to see the insides of a lathe and learn a bit more about them.

Workday: Classroom Wall Framing

Milling 101 – Bridgeport Mill Tool Authorization
Knox Makers - Machining 116 Childress St SW, Knoxville, TN, United States** Intro to Machining is a prerequisite class. You have to complete the Intro to Machining class before you can take the Milling 101 Class. *****
In this class you will receive basic hands on experience in operating a Bridgeport Series I J-Head milling machine. During this 3 to 4 hour class, Billy will go over the basics of tramming the head of the mill, tramming the vise, edge finding, work holding and setup, drilling , side milling, and top/end milling operations. You will also learn the basics of the DRO (digital read out), the table power feed, and basic care of the mill. This is a tool authorization class and once completed you will be authorized to use the milling machine and Knox Maker members will receive a key need to operate the mill. Intro to Machining is a prerequisite class.

3D Printing 101

With the explosion of affordable printers in the market, desktop 3D printing is within many people's budget, but maybe the lack of knowledge is holding you back.
Learn about the basics of 3D printing such as:
The different 3D printing technologies
Finding and selecting models
Selecting the correct materials for the job
Using slicing software
Operating and basic maintenance of a 3D printer

Help installing the software on your own laptop can be provided outside of class.
In class we will be using Inkscape and the laser cutting extension bundle we’ve put together for it. There is a minimum of one participant and maximum of five participants.

Fine Tuning FFF 3D Printers

This class will be mostly lecture and is intended for attendees that already have a grasp on the fundamentals of 3D printing. You do not need to bring your printer unless really really want to.
