Blacksmithing Authorization – Intro to Forging
Knox Makers - Blacksmithing 116 Childress St SW, KnoxvilleThis class introduces you to the new blacksmithing zone. We cover propane forge operation, zone safety, basic hand forging, and nail making. At the completion of the class, members will receive a key to access the forge and foundry building.
Proper attire is natural fiber clothing such as cotton jeans and T-shirts. Cotton/polyester blend is OK but synthetic clothing or other materials that can melt are unsafe. We have eye protection available but suggest you bring your own if you have them.
TIG Welding 201
Knox Makers - Metalworking 116 Childress St SW, KnoxvilleThis is the advanced class for authorization on the TIG Welder and Plasma Cutter.
You MUST have completed Welding 101 (Intro to MIG) or already feel very comfortable welding before taking this class. This is not an intro to the metal shop, but the next step focusing on beginning TIG.
We will spend a few minutes refreshing basic safety and area requirements, then we will go over the plasma cutter. We'll also learn how to set up the TIG machine and have shared welding time practicing technique.
Students are welcome bring their own PPE, shield and gloves if they have them, but this is NOT required- we have setups available to use
Perfect Miters and Splines
Knox Makers - Woodworking 116 Childress St SW, KnoxvilleThe miter is one of the most difficult joinery techniques to execute well. Error in fitment is additive which manifests a "last corner" in a box or picture frame that does not close up. In this class we will demonstrate tips and tricks to making perfect fitting miter joints every time. We will also demonstrate how to safely implement spline reinforcement for added stability and decorative enhancement of the joint. This will involve advanced table saw use, jigs and sleds, layout techniques, shooting board use and an increased state of happiness in ones future work.
This class is limited to 5 students. The cost is $19.96 for Knox Makers members, $39.96 for General Public
