Lock Picking 101

Lock Picking 101 – Unlock the Secrets of Locks!
A Hands-On Workshop for Beginners & Hobbyists
Ever wondered how locks work—or how they can be opened without a key? Whether you’re a curious maker, a security enthusiast, or just someone who loves a good challenge, this class is your gateway into the world of lock sport—the recreational art of lock picking.
Join Doc Bishop, a 20-year locksmith veteran, ALOA ACE Instructor, and TOOOL chapter organizer, as he guides you through the fundamentals of ethical lock picking in a fun, hands-on class.
What You’ll Learn:
The inner workings of a pin tumbler lock (the most common type in use today).
The ethics and legality of lock picking—when and where it’s okay to pick.
The tools of the trade—how to properly use picks, tension wrenches, and raking tools.
Hands-on practice unlocking training locks of increasing difficulty.
By the end of the class, you’ll successfully pick your first lock!
What’s Included:
Your own lock picking starter kit (2 picks + tension wrench) to take home.
A mix of training locks to practice on.
Step-by-step instruction from an experienced locksmith and lock picking expert.
IMPORTANT: Ethical Lock picking Only!
Never pick a lock you don’t own or have permission to pick.
Never pick a lock you rely on for security.
Respect the Lock sport Code of Ethics—this is a legal, educational hobby, not a crime!
