Hacking Farnsworth
If you have been to our space, you have probably seen the large, light up welcome sign, Farnsworth, hanging in front of the door when you come in. Farnsworth is ready for some new GIFs and pictures, and we would like to invite, to this class, all who are interested in learning how to create that content. Tracy will explain how to create a GIF using Gimp, open-source software used for image manipulation; program the GIF or picture to play; use SSH to connect to Farnsworth; and insert the GIF to play on Farnsworth for all to see. Now is the chance to program something fun that you can be proud of and that will be on display for your fellow makers to see.
No programming experience is necessary to attend this class, but experience with Gimp is a plus. Attendees are encouraged to bring a laptop pre-installed with Gimp, which can be downloaded here. If you do not have access to a laptop, one will be provided for use during this class.
There will be a fee for this class of $10 for the general public, $5 for current Knox Makers members. There will be an 8 person maximum for this class, and a 2 person minimum. If the class minimum is not reached by 48 hours prior to the time the class is scheduled to begin, the class will be canceled and all tickets will be refunded.
Knox Makers is a place for the Knoxville area’s engineers, artists, hobbyists, innovators, educators and entrepreneurs to work and play. We are a technology and art collective dedicated to the promotion of creativity enabled and informed by science. Our lectures, workshops, and outreach programs inspire and educate both members and the general public. Our workshop provides members with both the space for large projects and the tools to complete them. We are a non-profit educational organization supported by member dues and staffed by volunteers.
